BANKING (Related Courses)

A bank is a commercial institution that is government or privately owned. In India most banks are public sector banks. There are also scheduled private sector and scheduled foreign banks. The principal functions of a bank are to provide financial services, receive deposits, lend money and process transactions. Many banks also involve in related activity such as insurance, investment services as well as stock broking.
Requisite Qualification
Graduates, postgraduates, MBAs and Chartered Accountants can all seek employment in banks. There are a couple of institutions that offer specialized courses in banking.
Scope
In order to get into a bank an individual must be at least a graduate and that too with a high percentage of marks. To get into one of the public sector banks an individual must go through the Banking Service Recruitment Boards (BSRBs). Selection is done on the basis of a written test. Advertisement for recruitment is published in all leading newspapers as well as in the Employment News. Recruitment by private banks is done directly. These banks give preference to MBAs and Chartered Accountants.
Remuneration
There is great job security and the salary is very good. In addition to salary employees are entitled to loans on special terms. It is a well-paid career. The demand for trained professionals has increased substantially. Private banks offer better salaries but then the job security is also less.
