The Indian fashion industry has come of age. It has grown into a center of innovation in garment and accessory design. The industry is so vast that it offers a wide variety of options for any one wishing to pursue a career in fashion. To the fashion industry has come to mean studies in design, concept management, production, quality control, fabric design, printing, fashion accessories and so on. Fashion designing is the choicest area of work. This is because designing involves creativity and knowledge of emerging trends based on market research. Fashioning designing goes beyond garments. It also includes designing footwear, accessories, jewelry and luggage.


Requisite Qualification


Anyone aspiring to make a career in fashion must be a Graduate, Post graduate, Certificate and Diploma in the following areas:

  • • Accessory designing and fashion designing
  • • Garment Manufacturing Technology
  • • Apparel marketing and Merchandising
  • • Leather and Garment Design and Technology
  • • Knitwear Design and Technology
  • • Textile Design and Development
  • • Fashion Journalism and Presentation
  • While 10+2 is sufficient for Accessory designing and Fashion Designing, Graduates are preferred for other courses.>


    Scope


    Qualified individuals may seek employment in export houses, garment retail and wholesale, haute couture; fabric manufacturing, organizing fashion shows and so on. In addition to fashion designing, textile designing, merchandising and fashion journalism are all potential areas for employment.


    Remuneration


    Generally freshers get Rs. 8000 to Rs. 12000 p.m. But this depends on the skill and ability of the individual.
