PHARMASIST-Related Courses

Pharmacists are specialists in the chemistry and clinical use of drugs and their effects. As such they must be aware of the composition of drugs, their chemical and physical properties, manufacturing processes and uses and the tests for purity and potency. They play an important role in the daily lives of people. Because of their qualification pharmacists fit into a wide range of activities that include the development of new drugs, manufacturing and marketing. Pharmacists easily find employment in government departments, in teaching and in investigation and research.
Requisite Qualification
Individuals who wish to make a career in pharmacy could be diploma holders, or BPharm. Candidates with MPharm or PhD qualifications are better equipped for research.
Scope
Both the government sector and private organizations are avenues for opportunities for pharmacists. Qualified individuals find openings in manufacturing, development and quality control aspects. Many with BPharm qualification become medical representatives. Many BPharms are employed in drug retail. Self employment is also an option. MPharm and PhDs find openings in research. Teaching is an alternative.
Remuneration
BPharms are started on a salary of around Rs. 4000 p.m. MPharms and PhDs in research get between Rs. 15000 and 40000 p.m. Pharmacists in manufacturing get around Rs. 5000 p.m. Medical representatives are paid higher salaries.
